Barbara Gail Adams Memorial Scholarship

After 47 years of teaching elementary school in South Florida, Barbara Gail Adams retired to the mountains of Dahlonega. She soon became a board member of Lumpkin Literacy where she learned of the need to help detainees earn GEDs at the Lumpkin County Detention Center. Barbara invested three years passionately guiding and teaching motivated detainees to earn their GEDs through Lanier Technical College’s Adult Education program. Upon the arrival of 2020’s Covid-19, her teaching was suspended. Prior to her passing in 2021, Barbara expressed her desire that the important work at the Center be carried on.

Barbara’s family and friends wish to honor her memory by establishing a scholarship in her name that would support detainees in seeking a GED and a post-GED education.

Any former or current Lumpkin County detainee can apply for monies to cover expenses (such as GED testing fees, books, job training or necessary job tools) to further their education.

Your generous donation to the Barbara Gail Adams Memorial Scholarship will inspire and support more detainees to continue their education and help Barbara’s passion for teaching, learning and helping others live on. Please click below to give.
