Annual Not-at-all Ball -
our No Show Fund-Raising Event
June 15, 2019
Lumpkin Literacy doesn't want anyone to show up for their Not-at-all Ball in June. In fact, non-appearance is actually the theme of the Ball, an annual fundraiser for the non-profit Lumpkin Literacy Coalition.
“This is a Ball that doesn't have a band, or a silent auction, door prizes or even a location,” said Geoffrey Kridel, chairperson for the Not-at-all Ball and a member of the Lumpkin Literacy Board of Directors. The ticket for the non-event is a donation to the Lumpkin Literacy, with donation levels ranging from $25 to $1500.
A Night of Reading
“Instead of going out for a lavish evening, we want guests to participate in the Ball by staying home and curling up in a favorite chair with a great book,” said Kridel. “The joy of the Not-at-all Ball is knowing that, by donating and not attending an event, you are actually helping people learn to read.”
“When Geoffrey first approached our Board of Directors with the idea of a Not-at-all Ball , we had no idea how successful the event would be,” said Dr. Donna Gessell, Chairman of the Lumpkin Literacy Board of Directors. “The Ball is now second only to the Adult Spelling Bee as our organization’s biggest money-maker.”
All profits from the Not-at-all Ball go to funding the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for Lumpkin pre-schoolers and other literacy programs including ESL, adult learning, and the GED in Lumpkin County.
